Douglas McCulloch earned both his Bachelors and his Masters Degrees in
Music Composition at the University of Hawaii. He has studied composition with Thomas Osborne, Donald
Womack, Byron Yasui and Takeo Kudo.
He
has written for a large variety of instruments and ensembles, participated in
collaborations in musical theatre and film, co-founded the Pacific Composers
Project—a non-profit organization whose mission is to promote new music—and has
been featured and interviewed on Hawaii Public Radio’s Morning Café with Gene Schiller. In 2008 he was one of four student composers to win the
Omaha Symphony’s New Music Symposium Call
for Scores where he had the opportunity to attend reading sessions and a
performance of his music by the Omaha Chamber Orchestra, as well as attend master-classes
and individual composition lessons with composer Michael Daugherty.
He
is currently a lecturer at the University of Hawaii teaching music theory and
composition. He is engaged in
numerous projects including ongoing work with the Pacific Composers Project,
music for film with Prox 13 Productions, and also does volunteer work composing
and arranging for various community music and religious organizations.
Douglas lives in Honolulu with his
wife and children and plans to pursue his doctoral degree in 2012.
